We’ve had burgers a few times in the past couple of weeks. Then, yesterday, my husband and I had the television on as background and a show was on that talked all about burgers. Burgers, burgers, burgers.
When we make burgers at home, we usually just stick with the traditional burger patty, cheese, condiments, and onion or sesame seed buns. When I’m craving a burger while at a restaurant, I always opt for burgers that have mushrooms, bacon, cheese, barbecue sauce, onions … I’m talking the works.
While I was at Michigan State, there was this really great dive restaurant called The Peanut Barrel. Anyone who goes to Michigan State knows that the restaurant’s Famous Long Island will knock you on your butt after one glass. Pair that with their ‘Shroom Burger and I was one happy gal.
When I was younger, there was this really great restaurant in Novi, Michigan called Bates’ Burgers. The retro-style counter and stools were so fun to sit as a kid. We would order their famous burgers (more like sliders) with a side of crinkle cut fries. Pickles on the sliders were a must.
Then, there is this really great burger joint in Birmingham, Michigan called Hunter House Hamburgers. Once again, they have this really great vibe that is totally retro. Pull yourself up to the counter and dig your teeth into their sliders and fries. As Food Network Magazine stated, “We hit the road to find the one burger you absolutely have to try in every state. Hunter House Hamburgers is the #1 Best Burger in Michigan. Order 5 or 10 at a time.”
With all of these burger thoughts, it made me think about what would be my perfect burger. So, naturally, I asked my husband…
What’s Your Perfect Burger?
From sliders to massive topping-on-topping-on-topping burger, there are so many options when it comes to burger patties, condiments, buns, and toppings. His answer: “That’s a really tough question.” I totally agree.
I’m thinking my perfect burger would include some type of a mix of bacon, sauteed mushrooms and onions, a really good melty cheese, maybe even barbecue sauce … hmmm … it’s so hard to pick. Oh, and the bun? Hmmm … I love a really good onion burger bun. But, then there are pretzel buns, sourdough buns, potato buns … wow. The possibilities are endless.
At the end of the day, bacon, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and melty cheese are a must for me in order to head in the right direction of the perfect burger.
