What’s worse is that we are completely out of cereal…and let me tell you, I need my cereal in the morning. I can never leave for work on an empty stomach. Usually, I am totally bummed when we run out of cereal…I’m a cereal fanatic, just ask my husband. He can’t believe how fast I go through a box of cereal. I must say, at times I’m shocked too.
So far this week I’ve decided to make do with what little we have in our kitchen. In doing so, I’ve been able to fix myself some pretty tasty breakfast dishes, including one of my favorites: homemade French toast.
This recipe could not get any easier and it only takes a few minutes to prepare. Even though there’s not a lot to it, the French toast is packed with flavor and tastes so good. I should know…I’ve had it a few times this week already…
Basic French Toast
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4-6 slices of bread
- Butter
- Maple syrup
Directions:
- Place skillet on medium heat and get the pan nice and hot; spray with cooking spray such as Pam.
- In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs and milk together; add cinnamon.
- Dip the bread, one at a time, into the egg/milk mixture making sure to coat both sides. Place bread on skillet and cook on both sides until each side is slightly brown; repeat with other slices.
- Serve with butter and maple syrup…or any other topping of your choice!
Hopefully we can get to the grocery store tomorrow…my fingers are crossed!

As my sweetie and I were eating pancakes on Sunday we both came to the conclusion that we do in fact love french toast even more. I think I'll save up some bread (it will be hard—as we eat bread like it's going out of style) for Saturday morning french toast. Your photo was a beautiful reminder.
How To: Simplify says
Tracy: I'm glad the post served as a reminder! My husband is a huge fan of pancakes but I tend to like French toast just a little bit more. There's nothing like it…and it's so easy to make! Plus, it's even good as dinner…what's not to love about that? I hope you and your sweetie enjoy French toast on Saturday morning!
