- You don’t have any cereal in the house.
- You don’t have any milk in the house.
- You pour cereal into a bowl thinking that you have milk. When you reach for the milk in the refrigerator you realize that the milk has gone bad. Then, with a sad and pouty face, you have to pour the cereal back into the box.
Well, I can honestly say that I experienced #3 yesterday morning and it put me in a horrible mood. I absolutely can’t stand starting my mornings without a bowl of cereal. It was such a tease to have the cereal in the bowl staring up at me with no milk on hand.
The breakfast lover in me immediately started thinking of another idea for breakfast since it’s the most important meal of the day. I was in a hurry yesterday morning so I opted for yogurt and toast. Thankfully, that lasted me until lunch.
When I woke up this morning fully aware that we still didn’t have any milk in the house, I started brainstorming ideas for breakfast. I had an abundance of oatmeal on hand, as well as some bananas. I decided to combine the two and was very pleased with the result. Although I could never replace my cereal in the mornings, I think that this Cinnamon Banana Oatmeal is definitely high in the list of delicious options just in case I ever find myself in this predicament again.

Thank goodness for a great bowl of oatmeal. The worst is when I don't have the milk and my 3 & 6 year old are screaming for their cereal. We always have oats on hand :)

My favorite is sliced bananas and crunchy peanut butter. I also always add a little flax seed too! Yummy!

Great idea! Lately I've been occasionally splurging and adding white chocolate chips, shredded coconut, finely diced candied ginger, and a mix of milk and coconut milk to my oatmeal. It's decadent and rich, but it's such a wonderful morning treat!

I have been eating this exact breakfast (sans almonds) every morning for the past month. I have recently been living in a country where cheap, greasy, oily, fried, tasty breakfasts are to be found on every corner on every street… but seven months of that can take its toll. I finally began buying the healthiest thing I could find in the supermarket for breakfast–oatmeal–and have been eating it every morning with a heavy dose of cinnamon (who doesn't lovvve cinnamon??!! er..the Taiwanese generally) and a sliced *frozen* banana. Maybe it's just my brain, but I think the banana flavor is magnified more when it's frozen. It's great when you add it to the steaming oatmeal, mix the slices around a bit and let them melt just so…ah! Heaven in a bowl! I got the idea once I had to start freezing my bananas anyway because they ripen so quickly in this heat! Thankfully I haven't gotten sick of this breakfast yet, otherwise, I'm so sure what I will do :)

I have experienced #3 many times and it is always so disappointing. This is a great alternative when the milk runs out.

Oatmeal tastes WAY better is you use 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup milk and about a tsp of sugar
