What has really been interesting to me during this whole pregnancy has been the changes that my body has gone through. With an athletic body (yes, I was a tomboy growing up and, to this day, I love to play sports), watching my body transform to create a nice and cozy home for baby Nugget has been quite an eye-opening transformation.
Before becoming pregnant, I knew that a woman’s body went through all sorts of changes when carrying a baby … and even after giving birth. However, I didn’t understand the changes until I started to go through them.
I also didn’t realize just how quickly a body changes after becoming pregnant. With the baby growing at such an exponential rate throughout a pregnancy, it’s quite amazing to see just how quickly a woman’s body can adapt to such a life-changing experience.
One of my favorite parts about this pregnancy has been the support that I have received from my husband. As soon as we found out that I was pregnant, he couldn’t wait until my baby bump started showing. Every morning, he would look at my stomach, hoping and wishing that my baby bump would start to show. “Why isn’t it bigger yet?” “When will you start to show?” “I want your belly to be bigger … when are you going to get bigger?” The questions flowed from him on a daily basis. I had to calmly inform him that I was going to get plenty big … in time.
Every day, my husband would ask me what I had to eat throughout the day and whether or not I was eating enough for the baby. Every day, I would promise him that I was, indeed, eating enough. Every day, he would grow frustrated that my baby bump wasn’t getting big enough.
And then it happened … my bump finally popped out and he couldn’t have been happier. Me? I was pretty excited about it too.
This morning, as I was busy doing chores around the house, he took one look at me and said, “I love looking at your bump. It makes me so happy.” The baby bump finally arrived and his dreams came true.
As I said earlier, the bump will only get bigger from here on out and I look forward to watching the bump grow and expand. It truly is amazing what a woman’s body can handle and go through, as well as what it can adapt to in such a short amount of time.
I’m still in shock that a woman can go through an event like this and I look forward to experiencing all of the changes to come as baby Nugget continues to wiggle and move. Those little movements are simple reminders from Nugget saying, “We’re in this together, Mom. We can do this.”
*I’m 21 weeks in the photos throughout this post.
