When the temperatures drop, the leaves change, and the fall decor comes out, you can guarantee that one thing will always be on our television. That’s right, it’s football season. Between college football, my husband’s love of Fantasy Football, and our need to feed our competitive sides, we find that our weekends during the fall season involve football.
I grew up as a tomboy and still have the boyish spirit. From softball to basketball, I have always had a love of sports and knew that I wanted to marry a man that shared this love with me. As it turned out, I married someone who is more into sports that I am. In fact, I consider him a walking sports almanac.
He remembers every score, every play, and every stat. Ask him a sports-related question and he’ll know the answer. I’m always so impressed by his sports knowledge. I think in a past life he was a sports announcer because he’s so incredibly knowledgeable and has the best memory when it comes to sports.
Even though we don’t play as many sports as we used to, we try to stay super connected with sports. From watching the games on television to going to games with family members and friends, sports bring us close together and are a huge passion and hobby in our family and friend circles.
When watching the games on television, I love serving up a game day spread. Chips, dips, vegetables, meatballs — there’s nothing better than preparing quick and easy appetizers that are enjoyed throughout the big game. Finger foods that pack in the flavor and are easy to snack on are the ultimate in game day enjoyment.
My new favorite snack are these Spicy Oven-Roasted Chickpeas. I’ve always been a huge fan of salty snacks and when it comes to recipes, the hotter the better. So, when trying to think of a new appetizer to enjoy during one of the football games this season, I thought back to my Cinnamon and Honey Roasted Chickpeas and figured that I could turn them into a savory snack. I grabbed a can of chickpeas and a bottle of TABASCO sauce and before I knew it I had a game day appetizer that my husband and I devoured in a matter of minutes.
When it comes to game day snacks, keep them simple. As I always say, food doesn’t have to be complicated to taste good. With just a few ingredients, I was able to turn chickpeas into little bits of spicy goodness that paired well with the big game.
