Open the windows, let in the fresh air, spend time outside, and enjoy the sunlight … that’s right, for most of us, spring has finally arrived. Yesterday afternoon, Mr. I-only-like-to-take-morning-naps-this-week and I put on light jackets, threw on our shoes, and headed outside to soak in all that the spring day had to offer.
After my husband kissed us goodbye and left for work, my son and I got right down to it and played until dinnertime. For hours, I walked with him while he spent time on his walker, enjoyed a nice stroll around the neighborhood, and pushed him on the park swing. We felt awakened out of our winter hibernation … this is what spring is all about.
As we played outside, I couldn’t help but allow my mind to wander to the future warmer months. Blowing bubbles, swimming in the lake, spending time on the boat, breaking out all of his summer toys that have been tucked away in boxes … although we had fun last year during the warmer months, I have a feeling that this year is going to be even more active with Mr. Always-On-The-Go. I cannot wait for him to experience all that the warmer months have to offer, especially now that he is starting to associate objects and understand the world around him.
We already made plans to build a garden, spend as much time as we can on the boat, and get him in the water as much as possible. With him walking without his walker soon, one can only imagine was other activities we will quickly be adding to the list.
His curious side will be fun when it comes time to plant a garden. His courageous side will be fun when it comes time to go swimming. His adventurous side will be fun when it comes time to go boating. His playful side will be fun when it comes time to run around the backyard with the dogs.
Thanks to the warmer weather and fresh air this week, my soul feels a bit more awakened from the winter slumber. My mind can’t help but become full of ideas on how to make this spring a wonderful time of year for our little family.
