So, things have been a little on the quiet side around here. July was insane for us. Each weekend was full of visitors, trips, activities, balancing acts, good eats, refreshing cocktails, building and enjoying a fire pit … pretty much everything that defines an incredible summer month. Oh, and I decided to launch my photography business. Yes, that’s right. In the midst of a packed summer, I made a dream come true and that dream is JenTilleyPhotography.com.
If you couldn’t tell from my blog, photography has been a huge passion of mine. Growing up, I was always so fascinated looking through photographs. I loved getting my hands on a camera so that I could snap a few photos. Getting film developed and putting my photographs in a scrapbook was one of my favorite hobbies.
During my time at Michigan State University, I was studying journalism and that’s when I came across a photojournalism class. Hesitant at first, I decided to embrace the challenge and sign up for the class. I was given a camera, guidance from a professor, and unlimited access to the dark room. I looked forward to the days that we were given assignments, couldn’t wait to have my classmates critique my work, and found it hard to leave the dark room since developing film quickly became an art form that I completely embraced.
Known for its study abroad programs, I couldn’t wait to sign up for one of my university’s programs. Along with my love of photography, I have always had an infatuation with the wild world of travel. So, after looking over the programs list, I signed up for the photojournalism class. The next thing I knew, I was handed a DSLR and began packing for my journey over to the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
For months, my classmates and I traveled all over England, Scotland, and the Czech Republic capturing the faces, places, and adventures that we experienced along the way. As you can imagine, my love of photography grew to be a bit outrageous after the trip. Upon my return home, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on my own DSLR and continue my passion.
Fast forward a few years and you’ll have the start of my blog which just so happened to be a creative space that embraced my love of cooking, writing, and capturing moments on film. Eventually, I turned my food blog into a lifestyle blog in order to allow me to share all sorts of topics that were of interest to me, including photography. Let’s face it. When it comes to photography, I can’t help but help others. I love opening up people to photography and all of the possibilities and adventures that come with it.
Through all of this, I’ve had conversations with family members and friends about opening up a photography business. It seemed like a perfect fit, right? Well, according to the conversations that I had, my family members and friends all agreed. So, it was up to me to drum up enough courage to open up for business.
After endless amounts of research, conversations, critique sessions, and supportive words (especially from my husband), I’m so proud to introduce Jen Tilley Photography. If you’re in search of a photographer for event, family, newborn, milestone, maternity, engagement, etc. photography, then you’re in luck. Family is such an important part of my life and I know how important it is to capture those special moments. If you are looking for a photographer or know someone who is, by all means, please reach out to me or share my site. I’ll send you a million hugs for doing so!
A huge thanks goes out to all of my “encouragers.” You rock.
