In the past, I have had the hardest time drinking a lot of water throughout the day. My husband would always get on my case about my horrible water drinking habits. It even reached a point where he would send me text message reminders to drink water.
When we added a second kid into the mix, I continued to put my hydration habits even lower on the priority list. What’s upsetting is that I knew I should’ve been drinking more water to stay refreshed and feeling good when chasing after my kids. Instead, I came up with every excuse in the book: I don’t like the taste of water, I always forget, I don’t have time (yes, I’ve been known to say that I don’t have time to drink water). The list went on and on.
I heard that starting your day off with water is the perfect way to start the day. What did I usually do? I sat down to have cereal with fruit with my toddler. I drank the remaining milk in the bowl and quickly moved on to a cup of coffee. Hours went by before I even thought about having a sip of water. Before I knew it, it was the end of the day and I would take a few sips of water before heading to bed.
I knew about the benefits of drinking more water but something just wasn’t clicking. I needed to find a way to stay hydrated.
5 Simple Tips on How To Stay Hydrated
Over the past few months, I’ve discovered simple ways to help myself stay more hydrated whether on-the-go or hanging out at the house.
1.) Make it a Morning Habit
As soon as you get out of bed, pour yourself a hydrating beverage. Perhaps even toss in a slice of fruit (lemon, for example) to make the beverage taste more refreshing. Do this every morning to create a habit out of it.
2.) Set Reminders
All of us usually have our phones somewhere nearby at all hours of the day. Set an alarm every hour on the hour that will remind you to pour yourself a hydrating beverage. If you don’t want to set an alarm, then think about using sticky notes.
3.) Find a Drink You Like
For me, one of my biggest problems when it came to staying hydrated was the simple fact that I don’t particularly enjoy the taste of water. I knew I needed to find a drink that was good for me and that kept me hydrated throughout the day. I tried all sorts of flavored and carbonated waters but nothing was really doing it for me until I came across BODYARMOR LYTE. For those living in my neck of the woods (Maryland), you can find the beverage at Safeway, Target, and Wegmans. Here’s a coupon for your next purchase: http://drinkbodyarmor.com/coupon.php.
The naturally flavored, naturally sweetened low-calorie sports drink combines electrolytes, coconut water, and vitamins for Superior Hydration. BODYARMOR LYTE contains only 20/calories per serving and is the perfect drink to replenish your body.
The flavor that I always have on hand (whether in my refrigerator at home or in my diaper bag) is Cherry Berry. But, the Peach Mango flavor is also delicious. What I love most about BODYARMOR LYTE is that it’s heavy on hydration and LYTE on calories.
4.) Drink Out of a Bottle
The great part about drinking out of a bottle throughout the day is that you can see how much liquid you’re actually drinking. I once purchased a large jug that had measurements along the side. I filled the jug with my beverage of choice and watched it decrease throughout the day. I loved watching the line decrease bit by bit during the day.
Drinking out of a bottle also makes staying hydrated more convenient. You can toss the bottle in your bag before you head out of the house, place the bottle in the cupholder of your car as you’re running errands, or line up the bottles in your refrigerator to keep the beverage refreshing.
5.) Set Goals
I love combining #3 and #4 to help me set hydration goals for myself every day. Since BODYARMOR LYTE is now my drink of choice, I make marks along the side of the bottle to set goals. I always have such a great sense of accomplishment whenever I reach a mark on the bottle.
How much liquid do you want to consume every day? How will you go about achieving that goal? Write it down and stick to it.
As they say, “a goal without a plan is just a wish.” Instead of saying, “I wish I was more hydrated,” why not put together a plan, set your goals, and be well on your way to staying hydrated? It definitely worked for me.
What’s your favorite way to stay hydrated?
