I’ve always had a love of home decor products and houseware products that were on the rustic/farmhouse side. My decor was once described as farmhouse chic and that made me so happy. I have a strong love for the decor style of Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper but not as much shiplap (working on that).
I’m always trying to channel my inner Potterybarn and Fixer Upper when picking out home decor products. By the way, here are 10 places where you can find Fixer Upper home decor items. Lately, I’ve been feeling like my house is looking a little too like a big bowl of oatmeal since I have always played with and purchased various shades of tan and white. I like to add a tiny bit of color via succulents but that’s about it.
And then blue entered my life. I randomly woke up one day and decided that I wanted to add blue to our home. I had a minor freak out moment, texted my friend about it, and she said, “It is a little oatmeal but that’s your gig! Maybe start with adding a little bit of raisins and blueberries first.” So, that’s what I did.
I grabbed a blue and tan pillow and a jean-colored basket from my son’s room and placed them in the living room. Next, I switched out some of our black and white photos to include a bit of blue here and there. When I was at the store, I found blue curtains (which I immediately returned … that was a bit too much for this color-conscious oatmeal lover) and blue pillows to add to our dinning room. I also came across super cute blue napkins that pulled in the jean color from the pillows and basket. The look was starting to come together.
I’m still on the lookout for blue items to add throughout our home. But, the nice thing about the home decor is that my base is very neutral. If you start with a neutral base, then you can add pops up color with accessories, accents, and textiles.
So, although the blue is still growing on me a bit, switching things up has been more fun and has totally added a bit of interest throughout our home. I like seeing the pops of color here and there and I know that my color-loving husband couldn’t be happier with the new direction.

Here are some of my favorite home decor products and houseware products that I’m loving right now. Yes, they scream oatmeal but I made sure to include some pops of blue here and there just like I’ve done in our home.
